About The Position

The Strategic Buyer will serve as the purchasing interface towards projects and suppliers within the Exterior injection mold segment during the entire project phase. You will report to the Head of Cab Exterior Purchasing North America, and will be based out of Greensboro, NC. This role involves developing and supporting sourcing plans for components and systems, leading supplier selection processes, securing agreements with suppliers, driving supplier performance, collaborating with internal stakeholders, monitoring risks, ensuring supplier readiness for production, managing parts and orders, overseeing tooling inventory, participating in supplier performance reviews, and supporting transitions between project phases.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of strategic purchasing or business development experience
  • Developed verbal and written communication skills
  • Proven negotiation and analytical skills
  • Experience in creating and delivering critical path timelines
  • Well-developed business acumen, agile in way of working
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent working experience
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States, and should not require, now or in the future, sponsorship for employment visa status

Responsibilities

  • Develop and support sourcing plans for components and systems in alignment with cross-functional time plans and Segment Business Plans
  • Lead and support supplier selection processes, ensuring alignment with Volvo's targets, budgets, and sourcing deadlines
  • Secure all necessary agreements with suppliers, including standard and specific contractual packages
  • Drive supplier performance and fulfillment of QDCFTSR (Quality, Delivery, Cost, Feature, Technology, Sustainability, Risk) targets throughout sourcing, project, and production phases
  • Collaborate closely with internal stakeholders including Commodity Buyers, Cost Engineers, Product Cost Controllers, and SQE's to ensure sourcing and project success
  • Monitor, identify, and mitigate risks across both project and production phases
  • Ensure supplier readiness for production, including capacity planning and system integration (e.g. Parma codes, EDI connectivity)
  • Manage parts and orders during project phases
  • Oversee tooling inventory and lifecycle management, including funding requests for replacement or repair
  • Participate in supplier performance reviews and provide input to support continuous improvement and strategic alignment
  • Support transitions between project, commodity, and uptime phases, ensuring smooth handovers and compliance with service level agreements
