Straightener Apprentice - 1st Shift

Job Summary: The STRAIGHTENER APPRENTICE will learn how to inspect forgings and how to use a variety of hand tools, presses, and devices to straighten the forgings according to their specifications.
Requirements
- 1-2 years of High School or equivalent.
- Must be able to operate in a drug-free workplace.
- In compliance with ITAR regulations, must be a US Citizen or US Person.
- Basic Math (addition, subtraction, decimal points, tolerance).
- Basic English (reading, writing, verbal and comprehend).
- Must be able to work overtime when required to meet operational deadlines.
Nice To Haves
- Experience using measuring tools strongly desired.
- Basic blueprint reading skills strongly preferred.
- Ability to operate forklift a plus.
- Microsoft Office skills a plus.
- Aluminum heat treating experience and certification a plus.
- Aluminum hardness and conductivity testing and certification a plus.
Responsibilities
- Wear proper Personal Protection Equipment at the work area all the time.
- Work safe and maintain an organized, lean work environment.
- Strong commitment to good attendance and being on time as it is critical to meet production needs.
- Ability to work collaboratively.
- Assure quality and production requirements are met, as per the job-specific travelers.
- Participate in total quality management projects to achieve continuous improvement.
- Participate in LEAN manufacturing and SPC activities as required.
- Ensure adherence to APP’s policies and procedures, including our code of conduct and ethics policy, product safety, employee safety and cultural beliefs.
- Ensure adherence to all process specifications.
- Support the Plant quality system goals / improvements & productivity goals / improvements within the scope of the job.
- Learn how to read blueprints.
- Learn to use tools, such as straight edges, protractors, dial indicators, micrometers, and height gauges, to check the dimensions, curves and angles of parts.
- Learn to straighten small forgings with hand tools such as mallets, hammers, and holding fixtures.
- Learn to set up and operate presses to straighten large forgings.
- Learn to maintain freezer logbook.
- On-the-job training will be provided for this position.
- Perform any other duties not mentioned above when instructed to do so by the APP leadership.
