About The Position

The Sustainable Southeast Partnership (SSP) is a dynamic collective uniting diverse skills and perspectives to strengthen cultural, ecological, and economic resilience across Southeast Alaska. The intern will work with the SSP to develop and contribute to existing storytelling, outreach, and engagement strategies. The specific projects will be co-developed based on the skills, interests, and proficiencies of the intern but could include using photography, writing, graphic design, video, or other tools to share the impact of our programs in the following areas: • Land and water stewardship • Cultural vitality • Food sovereignty • Localized economy building • Energy independence The intern will work with a dynamic team of creatives to develop materials for social media, our e-newsletters, and website. Focus creative projects can be developed dependent on intern’s skills and interest including for print including in our monthly column with the Juneau Empire, through film, graphic design, art, photography, our annual magazine etc. The overarching goals of the internship are to strengthen SSP’s communications, outreach, social media, and storytelling programs while providing learning opportunities and professional development to the intern. Applicants from rural Southeast Alaskan communities are encouraged to apply. Multiple types of experiences, knowledge sets, backgrounds, and skills will be considered when reviewing applicants beyond traditional academic achievements.

Requirements

  • Curiosity and passion for storytelling as a tool for driving positive social and environmental change
  • Proficiency in writing
  • Proficiency in social media platforms
  • Creative and skilled with demonstrated interest in storytelling and outreach. This could be in the form of art and illustration, video, social media, photography, writing, art, graphic design etc. Please include a portfolio of work when applying

  • Able to both collaborate with a team and work independently
  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Ability to travel as needed
  • Must be 18 years old at time of hire
  • Must be currently enrolled in post-secondary school/program or a recent graduate (1-2 years)
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States

Nice To Haves

  • Strong critical thinking and research skills
  • At least a 2.5 GPA
  • Self-starter with ability to adapt to a fast-paced work environment

Responsibilities

  • Professional experience working with a unique collective impact network dedicated to strengthening cultural, ecological, and economic resiliency in Southeast Alaska.
  • Storytelling and communications experience supported by a team of experienced creatives with potential to publish outputs online and in print.
  • Experience developing value-driven social media, outreach, and storytelling outputs and strategies
  • Experience working with and in rural Alaska
  • Other duties as assigned
