About The Position

The City of Torrance is recruiting for an Auto Parts Storekeeper to be part of the Torrance Transit Team! The Department Torrance Transit is a municipally operated public transportation agency in the South Bay region of Los Angeles County. The agency directly operates a fleet of 63, 40-foot buses and a network of eleven (11) fixed-route bus lines. The mission of Torrance Transit is to provide safe, reliable, inexpensive and courteous transportation to our customers...the people who live, work and do business in the City of Torrance and the region. The Position The Auto Parts Storekeeper is responsible for purchasing and maintaining the inventory for the equipment, materials, and supplies of transit vehicles. The Auto Parts Storekeeper completes inventory control records and maintains a catalog system of transit vehicle parts. The incumbent will have knowledge of transit related equipment replacement parts and assemblies and have an understanding of basic procurement principles and practices. This position requires an attention to detail and accuracy in the processing of invoices and have experience with purchasing processes. Performs related work as required.

Requirements

  • Two (2) years of experience involving identifying, ordering, and maintaining stock on automotive, truck, or vehicular related equipment parts and assemblies for either a parts warehouse, supply store, automotive, truck or equipment repair center, or dealership.
  • Mathematics background as usually obtained in high school.
  • Valid California Class C Driver's License.

  • Experience in purchasing and maintaining vehicle parts and inventory
  • Good interpersonal skills and the ability to interact effectively with different customers, such as representatives from various City departments, salespeople from the public, custodians, mechanics, and delivery truck personnel
  • Computer literacy and experience using computerized inventory management programs
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to research materials and vendors for sourcing and purchasing automotive parts
  • Knowledge of inventory systems.
