About The Position

Incumbents of positions in this series unpack and examine incoming goods; purchase supplies and equipment; store goods, supplies, and equipment; mark identifying codes, etc. on articles; issue supplies, materials, and equipment; maintain records; take inventories; and perform related work as required. The basic purpose of this work is to receive, store, issue, ship aid purchase supplies, materials, and equipment for agency use.

Requirements

  • Applicants must have (A) at least three years of full-time , or equivalent part-time, experience in storekeeping work in a storeroom, a stockroom or warehouse, the major duties of which included receiving, storing and issuing supplies and equipment, and (B) of which at least one year must have been in supervisory or administrative capacity.

Responsibilities

  • Manages inventory, ensures smooth logistics and maintains proper records to supports the daily operation(s) of Highway Division’s Central Warehouse in Weston.
  • Receives and examines incoming goods to verify accuracy of quantity, quality, condition of goods and conformance to specifications.
  • Organizes the arrangement of goods, supplies and equipment within the warehouse to provide protection of items and effective utilization of space.
  • Stores inventory items in safe, appropriate, and accurate stockroom location and relocates goods and materials to other locations as needed.
  • Picks and issues supplies, materials, and equipment (including employee personal protective equipment) ensuring accuracy and compliance with established procedures.
  • Maintains records of items received, issued, delivered and shipped including description, quantity, and other identifying information in accordance with established procedures and fields in MassDOT’s automated inventory management system – currently Fleetio.
  • Liaises with District personnel, suppliers, and vendors in order to exchange information and resolve issues.
  • Participates in annual physical inventory of supplies and equipment to determine actual amounts on hand, to review and/or reconcile stock records, and to detect damage or variances in quantities.
  • Reviews purchase orders, invoices, and contract records to determine resources required to meet shipping and receiving needs, to determine availability of goods and to ensure accuracy of information and completeness of documents.
  • Reviews stock records for accuracy of information and compliance with specifications.
  • Assists with determining quantity, type, style, etc., of items needed, and order upon approval via established procedures.
  • Makes recommendations for ordering parts and supplies from contract vendors.
  • Confers with Manager in order to provide information and resolve problems.
  • Enforces safety protocols throughout the warehouse.
  • Assists in compliance checks and inventory audits.
  • Uses equipment (i.e., forklift) safely and in compliance with established procedures.
  • Attends meetings, workshops and trainings related to position and job duties.
  • Performs related duties such as loading and unloading items to and from trucks; maintaining general appearance of the warehouse in a clean and organized state; make sure grounds are neat and litter free and trach is emptied.
