About The Position

The Retail Manager serves as the anchor for the Scott Family Amazeum's retail business, bridging in-store merchandising, ecommerce, and operational systems into a cohesive, mission-aligned guest experience. This role owns the strategy and execution of the Amazeum's retail identity ensuring products, layout, storytelling, and digital presentation work together to support curiosity, learning, and financial sustainability. The Retail Manager oversees multiple revenue streams including onsite retail, ecommerce, and external marketplaces. The Retail Manager provides on-shift leadership to FOH operations 1–2 times per week, models best-in-class retail engagement, and serves as the primary trainer and subject-matter expert for retail operations, merchandising standards, and product storytelling. This role also brings strong technical and operational knowledge, supporting warehouse workflows, inventory systems, and the curated online shopping experience.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Knowledge of visual merchandising and product storytelling
  • Experience supporting warehouse or fulfillment operations
  • Reliable transportation to travel between the museum and an offsite warehouse location as required for the role.
  • Familiarity with retail analytics or inventory planning tools

  • Demonstrated business acumen, including experience working with budgets, financial data, or performance reporting
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities across physical and digital environments
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Provide the necessary documentation to prove that you are a U.S. citizen, permanent resident, or a foreign national with authorization to work in the United States.
  • Complete and pass a background check
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods (up to 8 hours per day), including on concrete floors.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials weighing up to 40 pounds independently and up to 50 pounds with assistance.
  • Ability to safely use ladders, step stools, pallet jacks, and basic warehouse equipment.
  • Ability to bend, kneel, crouch, reach overhead, and perform repetitive motions related to merchandising, inventory handling, and order fulfillment.
  • Ability to work in both guest-facing retail spaces and back-of-house warehouse environments, which may include varying temperatures, dust, and moderate noise levels.
  • Visual acuity sufficient to review inventory, pricing, merchandising details, and digital screens.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient for point-of-sale operation, packing orders, tagging merchandise, and handling small parts.
  • Ability to move frequently between the museum and an offsite warehouse location as part of regular job duties.
  • Reliable transportation required to travel between the museum and warehouse (approximately 20-mile round trip) and for occasional travel to trade shows, vendor visits, or industry conferences.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekends, evenings, holidays, and special events.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the merchandising 'anchor' for Curiosity Corner, owning store layout, visual standards, and seasonal refreshes
  • Curate mission-aligned product assortments that balance play, learning, local makers, and financial performance
  • Use sell-through data, inventory trends, and guest behavior to inform product placement, pricing, and replenishment
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally with Marketing, Guest Services, Education, and Programs to align retail storytelling with museum priorities
  • Manage and maintain the online Shopify storefront, including product listings, collections, inventory accuracy, and storytelling
  • Support warehouse operations including receiving, inventory flow, fulfillment, and coordination between onsite and online sales
  • Oversee retail operations across multiple revenue streams: onsite, ecommerce, and third-party marketplaces
  • Identify and resolve operational gaps that impact inventory accuracy, fulfillment, or guest experience
  • Serve as on-shift manager 1–2 times per week, modeling strong retail execution and guest engagement
  • Partner with the Guest Services Manager to align retail expectations with daily museum operations
  • Train Guest Services Associates on retail-specific skills including POS use, product knowledge, storytelling, and sales best practices
  • Provide feedback and coaching to reinforce merchandising standards and retail operations
  • Monitor retail performance metrics including sales, margins, sell-through, and inventory health
  • Work closely with the accounting team on reporting, reconciliations, and operational accuracy
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and planning for retail initiatives and seasonal strategies
  • Maintain accurate inventory controls and documentation to support profitability and audit readiness
