About The Position

The Store Manager at a Walmart Supercenter is responsible for developing and leveraging a strategic vision aligned with company, market, and local plans to direct facility operations, merchandising, and overall company direction. This role involves providing supervision and development opportunities for both management and hourly associates, addressing challenges like high turnover and recruiting, and fostering a culture of belonging. The manager upholds the company's Open Door Policy, ensures compliance with policies and procedures, and actively participates in community outreach programs, serving as a company representative. A key aspect of the role is driving the financial performance of the facility by achieving sales and profit goals, managing expenses, and overseeing budgeting and forecasting based on economic trends. The manager is also responsible for modeling and enforcing customer service standards, driving sales through effective merchandise presentation and inventory management, and ensuring the success of the Academy training environment by engaging trainees and maintaining high store standards. Furthermore, the position requires providing overall strategic direction, developing and implementing workforce strategies for talent attraction and retention, cultivating an ethical environment, and leveraging internal and external partnerships to achieve business goals. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree and 2 years general management experience, including financial accountability and 4 years’ experience supervising at least 50 nonexempt and at least 5 exempt associates/employees, including performance management, mentoring, hiring, and termination; OR
  • 4 years general management experience, including financial accountability and 4 years’ experience supervising at least 50 nonexempt and at least 5 exempt associates/employees, including performance management, mentoring, hiring, and termination.
  • For facilities that sell firearms, successful completion of a firearms-specific Criminal Background Check (CBC) and Firearms Authorized Training.
  • For facilities that sell only ammunition and have state specific requirements, a current state issued Certificate of Eligibility may be required.
  • Successful completion of all job required trainings and assessments (for example, Academy trainings, Open Door trainings, etc.).

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelor of Science in Business Management and Leadership through Live Better U and Bellevue University.
  • Experience as a Store Manager in a low complex store OR 1 year experience as a Store Manager in a medium complex store OR 2 years experience as a Store Manager in a high volume retail store.
  • Running a fresh or dry grocery area.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, communicates, and leverages a strategic vision aligned with company, market, and local plans and tactics to direct the management team and associates in facility operations, merchandising, and company direction.
  • Provides supervision and development opportunities for management and hourly associates, including recruitment, hiring, training, mentoring, succession planning, duty assignment, performance evaluation, recognition, and fostering a belonging mindset.
  • Upholds the company's Open Door Policy by meeting with associates, listening to concerns, researching issues, reviewing policies, driving consistency in responsiveness, and providing resolution.
  • Ensures compliance with company policies and procedures, navigating challenging compliance requirements, developing relationships with officials, holding associates accountable, analyzing reports, implementing asset protection and safety controls, maintaining quality assurance, overseeing reviews, and developing action plans.
  • Initiates, directs, and participates in community outreach programs, serving as the company representative, presenting the company's perspective, navigating media requests, and championing company-sponsored programs, events, and sustainability efforts.
  • Drives the financial performance of the facility by ensuring sales and profit goals are achieved, maintaining a strategic business perspective, executing process improvements, controlling expenses, interfacing with market teams, developing plans to correct deficiencies, overseeing budgets, and analyzing economic trends.
  • Models, enforces, and provides direction and guidance on proper customer service approaches and techniques to ensure customer needs, complaints, and issues are successfully resolved.
  • Drives sales in the facility by accounting for dynamic indicators, ensuring effective merchandise presentation, accurate pricing, proper signing, in-stock and inventory levels, budgeting, forecasting sales, and assessing economic trends.
  • Ensures the success of the Academy training environment and store standards, creating an engaging environment, integrating Academy associates in meetings, engaging trainees, providing job shadowing, acting as a culture champion, and maintaining high customer service.
  • Provides overall direction by analyzing business objectives and customer needs, developing and implementing business strategies, analyzing costs and forecasts, determining resource requirements, evaluating operational processes, measuring outcomes, identifying improvement opportunities, promoting a customer environment, and sponsoring continuous learning.
  • Develops and implements strategies to attract and maintain a highly skilled and engaged workforce by diagnosing capability gaps, recruiting, selecting, developing talent, supporting mentorship, workforce development, and succession planning.
  • Cultivates an environment where associates respect and adhere to company standards of integrity and ethics, integrating values, developing consequences for violations, and supporting the Open Door Policy.
  • Develops and leverages internal and external partnerships and networks to maximize business goals by sponsoring community outreach, engaging stakeholders, and supporting associate efforts.
