About The Position

In preparation for a store leadership position, the manager-in-training (“MIT”) will gain a thorough understanding of, and be able to demonstrate, the skills necessary to successfully manage the daily operations of a Bassett retail location. Areas of training include: sales leadership and coaching, customer relations, administrative functions, operational processes, human resources and systems.

Requirements

  • Minimum three years of retail experience
  • Ability to lead, motivate and manage a team
  • Conflict and problem resolution skills
  • Organizational and time management ability
  • Experience in Windows-based software
  • Ability to discern and coordinate colors
  • Ability to occasionally push or pull up to 25 pounds
  • Ability to occasionally bend or reach overhead
  • Ability to drive to customers’ homes
  • Willingness to relocate

  • Business administration degree preferred

Responsibilities

  • Gain a thorough understanding and be able to successfully drive sales through the performance of Bassett Best Practice Standards of Operations through daily coaching to ensure the staff is optimizing the standards
  • Utilize sales leadership concepts through daily coaching to ensure store sales staff is optimizing sales by practicing the customer-centered selling process
  • Partner with sales staff to set appropriate individual sales goals based on S.M.A.R.T. goal principles to continuously improve selling and selling skills
  • Recruit sales staff, which includes contacting potential candidates, interviewing (utilizing the Bassett interview guide) and selection
  • Schedule staff to maximize selling opportunities
  • Lead sales staff through and conduct new hire training programs, including E-learning and in-store product training
  • Become proficient in establishing, developing and maintaining customer relationships, utilizing effective problem-solving techniques
  • Gain a thorough understanding of administrative functions and how they relate to the management of the store and learn how to perform these tasks, which include: Payment processing (check, credit card, cash); External financing authorization and procedures; Petty cash management; Sales order entry auditing for accuracy and proper documentation; Key store statistics tracking and reporting (sales, traffic, makeovers, etc.)
  • Gain a thorough understanding of operational processes and practices, which include: Profit and loss analysis; Store expense control; Warehouse, service and delivery processes and procedures
  • Develop a working knowledge of human resources-related functions, including: Application and personnel records management; Job offer, new hire sign up and orientation; Company compensation plans, payroll administration and associate benefits; Associate relations and conflict resolution; Employment law; Counseling and corrective action; Safety and workers’ compensation
  • Learn how to effectively navigate and understand how to utilize applicable Bassett systems, such as STORIS, Dayforce, BNet, Floor planner, Bassett University, BassettRetail.com, etc.
