Right now, our KENT, WA store is seeking a Full Time Store Manager in Training (SMIT) Position Summary: Responsible for learning and participating in the overall store operation, including collections, processing sales, personnel management, financial performance and loss control activities. Objective is to acquire knowledge and skills needed to be capable of performing the Managers job at any Tacoma Goodwill location at the conclusion of the training.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of three years related experience and/or training in a retail environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Exceptional analytical, judgment, decision-making and communications skills
  • Superior coaching, leadership and interpersonal skills, including the ability to build understanding and consensus
  • Ability to read and interpret hard data and metrics.
  • Ability to write creatively and articulately with an emphasis on tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of the organization.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as: addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, and average.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra when working on spreadsheets.
  • Ability to create and manage departmental budget.
  • To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge Microsoft Office products, specifically Word and Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Comprehensive understanding of all aspects of Store Manager in Training.
  • Valid First-Aid card which meets OSHA and WISHA standards (may be obtained within 30 days of hire).
  • Self-motivated; resourceful, creative; high integrity; problem solver; looks to resolve issues; positive can-do approach; and ability to build effective working relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the proper handling and processing of incoming and outgoing donations: on-site donations, processed goods, salvage goods if applicable, and waste.
  • Maintain sales floor and store appearance, cleanliness and shopping/working environment. Included but not limited to: floors, fitting rooms, cash register and customer service areas, aisles, lights, restrooms, showcases, windows and door glass, and odor control.
  • Effectively and efficiently manage the store budget including maintaining payroll budgets, generating revenue and controlling expenses.
  • Ensure proper cash handling including cash register procedures and submission of required reports.
  • Report loss prevention matters to the LP team so that cases are reported and investigated accurately and within Goodwill's LP guidelines.
  • Follow and enforce proper operation of security and safety systems including, but not limited to: door locks, alarms, bank deposits, refunds, safe, incident reports, fire extinguishers and cash handling procedures.
  • Maintain appearance of building exterior and parking lot, including but not limited to: sidewalks, parking lot and exterior lights, dumpster area, landscape, stray shopping carts and store entry and signage.
  • Be available for special projects, at the discretion of the Regional Managers, at any location within the Tacoma Goodwill system.
  • Ensure that quality customer service is presented and provided by employees in a timely and courteous manner to all shoppers, donors and other employees.
  • Be active in interviewing, onboarding, and training of new employees by following Goodwill's processes for ensuring that hiring and training are done correctly and thoroughly.
  • Maximize sales performance through proper rotation, display/presentation, signage, and inventory levels. Meet or exceed sales goals on a consistent basis.
