About the position

The Store Manager Candidate at Dollar General is responsible for supporting the Store Manager in various store processes, including employee supervision, inventory management, and customer service. This role is designed to develop external candidates for the Store Manager position and is intended to be held for a limited period. The candidate will assist in recruiting, merchandising, and maintaining store operations, ensuring a safe and well-stocked environment for customers and employees.

Responsibilities

• Assist in recruiting and staffing activities.
• Participate in store merchandising by staging, stocking, and storing merchandise according to established practices.
• Assist in all aspects of inventory management, including damages, markdowns, and conducting inventories.
• Follow ordering practices to meet or exceed in-stock targets.
• Provide superior customer service leadership and act as a role model for company policies.
• Participate in store opening and closing activities.
• Ensure the safe deposit of company funds in the designated bank.
• Maintain financial integrity through cashier accountability and adherence to security practices.
• Assist in maintaining clean and well-stocked stores, providing a safe environment for customers and employees.
• Operate the store in the absence of the Store Manager.
• Review operating statements to identify business trends and expense control opportunities.
• Complete all paperwork and documentation according to guidelines.

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent strongly preferred.
• One year of experience in a retail environment preferred for external candidates.
• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules and procedures manuals.
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, and percentages.
• Knowledge of cash handling procedures and inventory management practices.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal and organization skills with attention to detail.
