About The Position

The General Manager is responsible for leading through Petco's vision of 'Healthier Pets. Happier People. Better World.' in order to develop a high-performing team that consistently delivers top-line sales growth while maintaining a focus on the welfare, health, and proper care of all animals. The GM leads a team of Pet Care Center managers, leaders, and partners and is accountable for all aspects of managing a single Pet Care Center. The General Manager drives their business through a focus on people (talent acquisition, training, and development), performance (guest service, sales, and expense control), and process (standard operating procedures and policies), which will result in overall profitability. This position requires a passion for pets, ability to inspire and lead a team, focus on process excellence, and a drive for results.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or its equivalent (GED).
  • Three or more years of management experience or equivalent.
  • Previous retail management experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in basic business & finance acumen, analysis, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellence in communication and computer skills.
  • Strong customer service skills and the ability to instruct others.
  • Professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Genuine interest in all kinds of animals.
  • Must be licensed to operate a motor vehicle.

Nice To Haves

  • Working knowledge of general business practices.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Completion of specific PETCO Management Achievement Program Modules.

Responsibilities

  • Build a team that embodies the Petco brand by delivering exceptional service and driving guest loyalty.
  • Attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent.
  • Train, coach, and develop leaders and hourly Pet Care Center partners in all areas and functions required to run the store efficiently and to Petco standards.
  • Create a professional environment that inspires and encourages the growth and engagement of partners.
  • Lead and implement a positive culture of teamwork, inclusion, and collaboration.
  • Ensure quick and courteous service to all Petco guests.
  • Responsible for all partner performance management in the Pet Care Center.
  • Meet or exceed goals related to total Pet Care Center sales, profitability, and operational excellence.
  • Schedule and adjust labor hours & payroll to maximize productivity.
  • Review and interpret financial and operational reporting regularly.
  • Identify underperforming metrics and develop strategies to improve and grow the business.
  • Market the Pet Care Center and its products, oversee planning of on-site and community events.
