The General Manager at Petco plays a pivotal role in leading the vision of "Healthier Pets. Happier People. Better World." This position is responsible for developing a high-performing team that consistently delivers top-line sales growth while ensuring the welfare, health, and proper care of all animals. The GM leads a team of Pet Care Center managers, leaders, and partners, and is accountable for all aspects of managing a single Pet Care Center. This includes driving the business through a focus on people, performance, and process, which ultimately results in overall profitability. The role requires a passion for pets, the ability to inspire and lead a team, a focus on process excellence, and a drive for results. In this role, the GM regularly exercises discretion and independent judgment to create the best possible partner, guest, and pet experience. They are responsible for building a team that embodies the Petco brand by delivering exceptional service and driving guest loyalty. The GM must attract, hire, and retain a diverse team of top talent, while also training, coaching, and developing leaders and hourly partners in all areas required to run the store efficiently and to Petco standards. The GM is expected to create a professional environment that inspires and encourages the growth and engagement of partners, ensuring quick and courteous service to all Petco guests. The General Manager is also tasked with meeting or exceeding goals related to total Pet Care Center sales, profitability, and operational excellence. This includes scheduling and adjusting labor hours and payroll to maximize productivity, reviewing financial and operational reporting, and identifying underperforming metrics to develop strategies for improvement. The GM ensures the proper health, appearance, welfare, and handling of all animals, and maintains the Pet Care Center's professional image, appearance, and cleanliness. They are expected to model inspiring leadership, promote safety, foster a collaborative culture, prioritize talent development, and engage with the team in a way that maintains high standards within a fun working environment.
