The Stores Executive Leadership Internship at Target is a paid 40 hr/week, hands-on training program designed to develop and prepare individuals for store leadership roles. Interns will gain a realistic preview of the Executive Team Leader role (Assistant Store Manager) while working closely with managers and team members. The internship focuses on leading a retail team, understanding store operations, and delivering exceptional guest service. Interns will learn to drive guest experience, manage team performance, and execute business strategies while receiving ongoing developmental support.

  • Spend time on the store salesfloor and backroom leading amongst team members and aligning the team on daily business priorities.
  • Work alongside your Executive Team Lead (ETL) mentor and other leaders to gain an understanding of their roles.
  • Lead through daily priorities such as stocking shelves and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Partner with leaders regarding team member performance by teaching, coaching, training, and delivering timely performance feedback.
  • Address team member concerns and remove hurdles to ensure smooth operations and goal attainment.
  • Lead/present at daily huddles with peer/leadership team.
  • Plan daily goals and organize plans within the building.
  • Provide summary of results and priorities with peer/leadership team.
  • Review business reporting and guest insights to understand and follow up on opportunity areas.
  • Deliver an exceptional guest experience by ensuring team members are knowledgeable and empowered.
  • Take the initiative to learn how to be a Target leader by seeking out opportunities for growth.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
  • Previous retail experience preferred, but not required.
  • Strong interest in working in retail, specifically within management.
  • Leadership skills and team-oriented thinking.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to current technology needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Experience in a fast-paced, highly active, and physically demanding role.
