About The Position

The Stores Executive Leadership Internship at Target is a paid 40 hr/week, hands-on training program designed to develop and prepare interns for store leadership roles. Interns will experience firsthand what it's like to lead a retail team within a Target store, gaining a realistic preview of the Executive Team Leader role (Assistant Store Manager). The internship involves working closely with managers and team members to understand how Target's retail business operates, focusing on leading the team, identifying store priorities, and delivering excellent guest service. Interns will learn to drive guest experience, manage team performance, and execute daily operations while fostering a positive store culture.

Requirements

  • Strong interest in working in retail, specifically within management roles.
  • Previous retail experience preferred, but not required.
  • Leadership skills and team-oriented thinking.
  • Ability to learn and adapt to current technology needs.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Effective communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Spend time on the store salesfloor and backroom leading amongst team members and aligning the team on daily business priorities.
  • Work alongside your Executive Team Lead (ETL) mentor and other leaders to gain an understanding of their roles.
  • Lead through daily priorities such as stocking shelves and ensuring a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Partner with leaders regarding team member performance by teaching, coaching, training, and delivering timely performance feedback.
  • Address team member concerns and remove hurdles to ensure smooth operations and goal attainment.
  • Lead/present at daily huddles with peer/leadership team.
  • Plan daily goals and organize plans within the building.
  • Provide summary of results and priorities with peer/leadership team.
  • Review business reporting and guest insights to understand and follow up on opportunity areas.
  • Deliver an exceptional guest experience by ensuring team members are knowledgeable and empowered.
  • Provide new ideas and recommend solutions to business or team opportunities.
  • Actively participate in internship program training activities and developmental opportunities.
  • Demonstrate a culture of ethical conduct, safety, and compliance.
