Requirements

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills; ability to maintain professionalism with customers and associates.
  • Thorough knowledge of grocery operations, store systems, merchandising, and Company policies.
  • Ability to frequently lift, push, pull, and maneuver items up to 50 lbs.; regularly bends, stoops, and reaches.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive motion tasks.
  • Strong attention to detail and mental alertness for safe and accurate performance of duties.
  • Knowledge of math, weights, measures, perishability, sanitation, labeling, and department operating procedures.
  • Ability to safely operate store equipment (pallet jacks, hand trucks, Sterilox machine, cutters, etc.).
  • Proficiency in computer systems and electronic ordering platforms.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays, and varying schedules.
  • Good attendance required.
  • Exposure to potential hazards associated with equipment is possible.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness, ensuring fast, friendly, and solution‑oriented service across the entire store.
  • Responsible for total store Customer Service Index (CSI); communicates directly with customers to resolve concerns and ensure satisfaction.
  • Engage in suggestive selling and customer‑focused sales techniques through phone interactions, in‑store announcements, and direct customer contact.
  • Appropriately answer and respond to incoming calls; resolve customer grievances professionally and effectively.
  • Serve as the primary leader for total store operations—implementing Company and Division merchandising, sales, and operational initiatives.
  • Drive sales, achieve gross profit goals, and manage store expenses to meet financial targets.
  • Plan daily operations, monitor production processes, and ensure adherence to company standards and profitability expectations.
  • Communicate regularly with Operations Specialists to support the execution of sales programs, promotions, and Division initiatives.
  • Ensure Department Managers and store teams clearly understand Company goals, objectives, policies, and expectations.
  • Lead weekly meetings with Department Managers to review ads, sales plans, and store promotions; ensure an alternate manager conducts these meetings when absent.
  • Build and maintain positive community and vendor relationships; maintain communication with manufacturer representatives and corporate/divisional contacts.
  • Monitor market trends, competitor activity, and community dynamics to support business decisions.
  • Utilize computer software and electronic ordering systems; basic proficiency with Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and email is required.
  • Ensure all company safety and health initiatives are implemented, communicated, and upheld by associates.
  • Maintain full integrity and compliance in all Food Safety and Sanitation practices.
  • Serve as the sole store-level authority for food safety compliance across all departments.
  • Ensure all employees maintain compliance with required programs, including Food Safety, HIPAA, COBC, Meat Grinding Logs, Workplace Benefits, and other state‑specific requirements.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Company policies, guidelines, and Employee Handbook standards.
  • Ensure accurate code dating and rotation of all products in all departments.
  • Maintain compliance with scheduling initiatives, payroll guidelines, wage and hour policies, time clock rules, grooming standards, dress code, child labor laws, and all employment regulations.
  • Maintain accurate and legally compliant records per Company retention policies.
  • Review and approve all department schedules prior to posting to ensure proper staffing.
  • Conduct daily store inspections to ensure quality, cleanliness, code date compliance, and proper product rotation across all departments.
  • Utilize and operate equipment including pallet jacks, hand trucks, knives, safety cutters, and Sterilox machines.
  • Implement emergency procedures in the event of equipment or software malfunction.
  • Ensure proper product temperatures and compliance with federal/state labeling laws and Company code‑date policies.
  • Perform receiving duties such as breaking down loads, verifying orders, inspecting product quality, and maintaining proper storage and temperature standards.
  • Fully accountable for staffing, recruiting, interviewing, hiring, and training for all store positions.
  • Evaluate employee job performance and make personnel decisions including promotions, corrective actions, and terminations—in collaboration with Department Managers and Assistant Store Directors.
  • Conduct formal employee evaluations as required by Division guidelines.
  • Identify training needs for key associates and ensure completion of required development programs.
  • Resolve employee relations issues—including discrimination, harassment, workplace violations, and policy concerns—with support from Human Resources.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee information, store sales reports, and Company documentation.
  • Provide clear direction and coaching to department managers, supervisors, and store associates.
  • Oversee and ensure compliance in cash handling, sales reporting, safe procedures, and protection of company assets.
  • Control shrink and maintain inventory levels in accordance with Division guidelines.
  • Develop and manage operating budgets; control in‑store operating, maintenance, supply, and expense costs.
  • Review, process, and oversee completion of all required administrative reports, including P&L, sales, waste, labor, and other store metrics.
  • Prepare sales and inventory reports; oversee physical inventory every four weeks.
  • Ensure accurate inventory of merchandise, supplies, and equipment; lead inventory audits.
  • Oversee reclamation processes and maintain organized, in‑stock conditions in backroom and all departments.
  • Recommend store equipment repairs or improvements to the District Manager.
  • Ensure correct pricing, signage, shelf conditions, and product presentation throughout the store.
  • Perform all duties with accuracy, safety, honesty, and integrity, while treating employees with Courtesy, Dignity, and Respect.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
