About The Position

The Hope's Closet Store Associate is responsible for providing high quality customer and retail services, while upholding the mission, vision, and values of New Life Center (NLC). This position is responsible for assisting with donation acceptance, assisting with the offloading of large, donated items, sorting, storefront arrangement and upkeep, and pricing donations made to the Hope's Closet donation center. The Store Utility Associate also greets customers, answers questions, and assists with stocking the floor with priced donation items.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • One year or more of retail experience. Thrift retail experience is a plus.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds, without assistance.
  • Valid Arizona driver's license.
  • Negative TB test required.
  • Demonstrated ability to remain calm in crisis situations, work independently and cooperatively, recognize personal limitations, and relate positively and with empathy to all persons regardless of age, race, creed, gender identity, or sexual orientation.
  • Maintain professional conduct consistent with ethical professional practice and the policies and procedures of the agency.
  • Maintain a professional demeanor and positive working relationships with internal and external team members, stakeholders, and community and business partners.
  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communications skills.
  • Regular and consistent attendance.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow-through with tasks.
  • Effective time management and ability to prioritize and reprioritize tasks in a fast-moving environment.
  • Highly proficient with computers and software including Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

Nice To Haves

  • Two or more years of experience in the retail environment.
  • One or more years of thrift retail experience within a human services agency.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Greet each customer in a friendly, helpful manner.
  • Always answer questions about merchandise or store procedures in a professional and courteous manner.
  • Respond to phone calls with attention to high-quality customer service.
  • Help maintain the appearance of the store and ensure that merchandise is easily accessible.
  • Provide relief to other staff as needed for breaks.
  • Accepts donations from customers, providing quality customer service.
  • Assists customers with unloading and loading any donated items including furniture.
  • Arrange furniture on sales floor.
  • Move purchased furniture to back donation area.
  • Help maintain safety and organization of the sales floor.
  • Assist in loading or unloading donated and/or purchased items from vehicles safely and efficiently.
  • Aid donors and ensure that each donor receives a donation receipt.
  • Promptly and efficiently process donations by sorting, pricing, and organizing donated items.
  • Maintain a friendly and positive attitude toward customers and donors.
  • Ensure that the donation room and outside donation area is organized, neat, orderly, clean, and safe.
  • Ensure the dumpster area is swept daily.
  • Assist with moving items from the donation room to the sales floor and merchandise items appropriately.
  • Participate as an active team member of the Hope's Closet Team.
  • Share in responsibility for cleanliness and appearance of entire store and exterior areas.
  • Communicate emergencies, customer concerns, and organizational needs to the Thrift Store Manager or appropriate member of the leadership team.
  • Work cooperatively with a diverse group of staff, and new Life Center residents who have exposure to trauma.
  • Knowledge of basic mathematics, including addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication.
  • Help in building a culture of cooperation and collaboration among Hope's Closet staff, interns, and volunteers.
  • Support and adhere to all policies regarding participant and program confidentiality.
  • Actively contribute to NLC's trauma informed philosophy.
  • Participate in scheduled agency-wide meetings and events as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as needed.
