The Storage Engineer must be able to work in cross-functional environments and interact with representatives from CGI, NetApp, and our end-clients. Will work at various CGI/and client sites consulting and executing various engineering initiatives from administration, configuration, deployments, migrations, supporting storage environments, and more. This position can be located remotely anywhere in the U.S; however, the preferred location is Knoxville, TN. If not in the preferred location, you will be expected to work EST hours and between 75%-90% travel is required. Your future duties and responsibilities: Understand and convey customer needs and provide recommendations to other storage professionals. Translate requirements into technical and systems specifications and configurations. Provide technical analysis to ensure solutions are operationally sound. Act as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) for NetApp StorageGRID technology — including deployment, administration, and support. Demonstrate expert technical capabilities across a wide array of NetApp products, third-party applications, SAN/NAS, EMC, Cisco/Nexus, Linux, and related systems. Perform complex technical work, including administration, configuration, deployments, proof of concepts, and documentation. Support infrastructure components across storage, network, and server environments. Provide multiple tiers of technical support (1st, 2nd, and 3rd line). Present technical solutions and recommendations to Engineering and Operations teams. Conduct testing on NetApp hardware and software suites, documenting results and findings. Participate in evaluation and adoption of new storage technologies and software releases. Fully document technical solutions — including logical/physical system diagrams, data flow diagrams, test plans, and as-built documentation.

  • Deep expertise in NetApp Technologies, including C-DOT, ONTAP, 7-Mode, OnCommand, HWU, SmartSolve, ActiveIQ, and StorageGRID.
  • Experience with racking, stacking, cabling, and hardware deployment for various NetApp storage cluster models and switches.
  • ONTAP Core knowledge is essential.
  • Strong working knowledge of Unix and Windows operating systems.
  • Understanding of NAS, SAN, NIS, DFS, CIFS, NFS, and Active Directory concepts.
  • Proven experience in storage capacity planning and storage monitoring.
  • Hands-on experience delivering data migration, storage monitoring, and application deployment projects.
  • Practical experience with cloud storage, infrastructure, and enterprise operations systems.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with VMware, NAS/SAN support, and automation/scripting (Python, PowerShell, Bash).
  • Excellent written, verbal, and collaboration skills.
  • A proactive, “go-getter” mentality — takes initiative and drives progress.
  • Strong written and oral communication abilities.
  • Experience collaborating within diverse, highly skilled technical teams.
  • Ability to clearly communicate and present technical information to account teams and customers.

  • Experience with FC datastores on VMware — Dell Unity experience preferred (source environments).
  • Experience with container technologies such as Docker or Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with NFS conversion from FC.
  • OpenShift experience is a plus.
  • DII operations exposure preferred.
  • Active or eligible security clearance helpful but not mandatory.
