We are currently seeking a Storage and Backup Engineer - Remote to join our team in Plano, Texas (US-TX), United States (US). A Storage Engineer supporting an Epic infrastructure build, migration, and managed services plays a vital role in ensuring that Epic's storage architecture meets the strict performance, reliability, and compliance standards required by Epic Systems

Responsibilities

  • Design and Provisioning of Epic-Compliant Storage Architecture:
  • Design and configure storage systems (SAN/NAS) to meet Epic's System Requirements and specific performance benchmarks (e.g., IOPS, latency).
  • Provision storage for Epic components such as:
  • Chronicles (operational database), Clarity/Caboodle (reporting and analytics), Interconnect, Web Blob, Hyperspace, and other app-tier components.
  • Ensure proper RAID levels, thin provisioning, deduplication, and tiering strategies based on workload needs.
  • Data Migration and Cutover Planning:
  • Plan and execute data migrations as part of Epic go-lives or data center/cloud transitions, ensuring zero data loss and minimal downtime.
  • Support cutover activities for moving production environments between storage platforms or sites.
  • Use tools like SnapMirror, Veeam, or native vendor tools (NetApp, Dell EMC, Pure, etc.) for replication and migration.
  • Performance Monitoring and Optimization:
  • Continuously monitor storage utilization, throughput, latency, and IOPS for Epic environments.
  • Proactively identify and resolve storage performance bottlenecks that may impact Epic application speed or reliability.
  • Fine-tune storage system settings and coordinate with server and database teams to align with Epic's performance tuning guidance.
  • Backup, DR, and Compliance Support:
  • Implement and maintain Epic-approved backup strategies and disaster recovery (DR) solutions.
  • Coordinate backup policies for Epic Chronicles, Clarity, Caboodle, and image repositories in accordance with Epic's DR recommendations.
  • Ensure HIPAA-compliant storage practices, including encryption at rest, access controls, and audit logging.
  • Support DR testing and validation cycles for Epic readiness and compliance
