About The Position

As an integral part of the College’s Division of Development and Alumni Relations, the Office of Stewardship leads donor recognition and reporting activities and works closely with fundraising staff to facilitate and support their work with current and prospective donors. The Stewardship Specialist works to foster lasting relationships between Carleton College and its benefactors, promoting positive attitudes toward giving among current and prospective major and planned gift donors.

Requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree and at least three years of writing and editing experience, ideally in stewardship, donor relations, fundraising, marketing, communications, or a related field.
  • Excellent writing, research, proofing, and verbal skills.
  • Ability to adapt writing to others’ style and to make sound judgment calls regarding quality of writing and appropriateness of content for audience.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and Zoom.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collegially and collaboratively at all organizational levels.
  • Strong project management skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to analyze and develop alternative solutions and make recommendations.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of and commitment to the mission and values of a selective private liberal arts college.
  • Database experience, including data merges.
  • Experience working with Asana, WordPress, Emma, Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, and Slate.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the gift acknowledgment and tribute letter processes: Generate acknowledgment letter reports and ensure appropriate signer for each donor letter.
  • Research and write high quality, personalized letters for the President, Vice President, Development AVP, and Director of Stewardship to thank key donors.
  • Write other special letters for the President and division leadership as needed.
  • Manage the tribute letter process and mailing.
  • Manage special internal and external reporting projects: Work with Stewardship colleagues to prepare and send annual reports to donors supporting internships.
  • Manage some smaller, unique reporting projects.
  • Generate gift reports for campus partners, as needed.
  • Work with Stewardship colleagues to plan and implement strategies for superior donor stewardship.
  • Proof reports, letters, and other work done by Stewardship colleagues to ensure high quality and accuracy.
  • Support and collaborate with Development colleagues on donor interactions and stewardship efforts.
  • Assist with donor recognition events, including staffing and program assistance.
  • Work with Stewardship colleagues to track department accomplishments.
