About The Position

The Steward is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation in the Kitchen and related areas. This includes washing, scrubbing, and maintaining kitchen walls and floors, operating dishwashing machines, and washing pots and pans. The role also involves arranging chinaware and silver, emptying garbage, and assisting kitchen personnel as needed. Key duties include setting up workstations, rinsing and washing dishes, sweeping and mopping kitchen floors, monitoring chemical levels and water temperature, and cleaning various kitchen equipment such as hoods, filters, steam tables, and ovens. The Steward is expected to notify supervisors of any malfunctioning equipment or unsafe conditions, comply with IHG Hygiene and Sanitation standards, and adhere to the Hotel's Health and Safety Policy. Maintaining a clean and quiet environment behind the scenes is crucial. Additionally, the Steward will attend required meetings and training sessions and perform other assigned duties and special projects.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent vocational training
  • Previous experience in this position at a similar establishment
  • Food Hygiene awareness and at least basic training
  • Ability to communicate in English with guests, co–workers and Management to their understanding
  • Ability to compute basic mathematical calculations
  • Ability to provide legible written communication
  • Ability to perform job functions with attention to detail, speed and accuracy
  • Working in a fast paced manner and environment
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, work delegated and follow through

Responsibilities

  • Washes, scrubs, and maintains Kitchen and related walls and floors.
  • Operates dishwashing machine to manufacturer's specifications and instructions.
  • Washes and scrubs pots and pans used in the Kitchen.
  • Arranges Chinaware, Silver in store rooms and shelves.
  • Empties various garbage cans as appropriate.
  • Assists Kitchen personnel as required.
  • Adopts the "Clear as you go" method of working.
  • Sets up work station as required including filling dish machine, checking chemical levels, setting up flatware presoak, and gathering required set-up equipment for pot sink.
  • Rinses/scrapes all dishes; washes dishes and flatware as each rack is filled; may put clean dishes in assigned storage location.
  • Sweeps and mops kitchen floor at the end of each meal period and after each spill.
  • Monitors chemicals and water temperature during shift; changes water at specified intervals.
  • Cleans kitchen equipment such as hoods, filters, steam tables, bus tables, carts, ovens, and grills; cleans and organizes storeroom.
  • Notifies supervisor of any malfunctioning equipment or unsafe condition.
  • Complies with IHG Hygiene and Sanitation standards.
  • Complies with Hotel's Health and Safety Policy.
  • Maintains a clean and quiet environment for our guests behind the scenes.
  • Attends meetings and hotel training sessions as required by hotel management.
  • Comply with all workplace health and safety requirements, including any department specific training regarding equipment and procedures.
  • Perform other duties, tasks and special projects as assigned.
