How will you make an impact? The Sterilization Scientist is responsible for providing technical support to the Development Teams, Manufacturing and Sterilization Operations areas. This position will be required to develop full and complete competency and knowledge in Gamma and EO sterilization methodologies. This position reports to the Sterilization Science Manager. As the Sterilization Scientist, you are required to be onsite in Byhalia, MS.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience and proven proficiency in medical device sterilization is highly preferred.
  • Microbiology laboratory procedures experience within a controlled manufacturing environment is needed.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Gamma and EO sterilization methodologies is preferred.
  • Knowledge/familiarity with AAMI/ISO sterilization standards is needed.
  • The candidate will be expected to successfully complete a Certified Irradiator Operator course, ensure regulatory compliance, complete sterilization projects as needed to support the manufacturing process.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills are needed.
  • Taking a highly collaborative approach with ability to work effectively in a team environment, making effective management level presentations, and authoring formal reports is needed.

Responsibilities

  • The Sterilization Scientist will work with development teams and operations on sterilization validation requirements, microbiological issues, and appropriate test methods and manufacturing environment to meet quality, cost, and release to market objectives.
  • Work on projects of diverse sizes and complexity, primarily on high impact complex projects.
  • Coordinate exposure of test samples to sterilization processes to support teams.
  • Ensure contractors meet sterilization policy requirements.
  • Work with operations (internal and suppliers) on environmental monitoring practices for manufacturing environments.
  • Determine appropriate DDS strategies for complex product orientations.
  • Analyze dosimeter calibration data from internal irradiators and contractors.
  • Advise Q.S., R.A., and Product Inquiry on specific sterilization/microbiology questions.
  • Troubleshoot sterilization process deviations; develop short- & long-term solutions to prevent recurrence.
  • Follow all company safety policies and other safety precautions within the work area.
  • Promote safety for all associates that enter the work area.
  • Set standards for safe behavior.
  • Recognize and reward safe behavior in others.
  • Evaluate safety performance and ensure that safety is a part of each staff member’s GPMS.
