About The Position

Receives, checks, stores, maintains, prepares, delivers and issues sterile supplies, medical equipment, and related supplies; cleans, operates and maintains cleaning and sterilizing equipment. Participates in quality assessment and continuous quality improvement activities. Complies with all appropriate safety and infection control standards. Performs all job duties and responsibilities in a courteous and customer-focused manner according to the Hurley Family Standards of Behavior. Works under the supervision of a sterile service supervisor who assigns work any inspects for conformance to prescribed procedures and techniques.

Requirements

• Ability to read and write.
• Ability to learn prescribed procedures and techniques.
• Ability to do necessary tasks involved in the manipulation of sterilizing and cleaning equipment.
• Ability to carry out instructions and to keep records.
• Ability to maintain harmony with fellow workers.
• Sufficient strength to lift moderately heavy objects.

Responsibilities

• Receives, cleans, checks, maintains, stores and delivers medical supplies, equipment and machinery.
• Cleans, prepares and operates aerators, sterilizers, washers and decontamination equipment.
• Cleans, prepares and dispenses surgical case carts.
• Prepares instrument trays for surgical areas and nursing units.
• Standard test packs and conducts sterilizer tests with biological monitors according to procedure.
• Labels supplies with lot numbers as applicable.
• Attends educational/developmental programs and department meetings as assigned.
• Maintains clean, safe and orderly work environment.
• Assists in orientation of personnel newly assigned to area as required.
