Sterile Processing Technician II is responsible for ensuring instrumentation needed in the Operating Room is prepared within the allotted timeframe. Requirements

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 18 months of hospital experience in the technical aspects in Sterile Processing required.
  • Operating Room, workroom (i.e., concepts of asepsis, mechanical operation of equipment) preferred.
  • Previous leadership experience preferred.
  • Certified Registered Central Services Technician (CRCST) preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Inspires confidence by always performing and communicating in a highly professional manner.
  • Through attitude and example, demonstrates Yakima Valley Memorial's (YVM) expectations for customer service.
  • Produces work with minimal clerical/charting errors, including omissions.
  • Assists with the orientation of employees to assure familiarity with job requirements, relevant policies, and procedures, proper use of tools and equipment, productivity expectations, safety practices, etc.
  • Provides initial coaching and mentoring to staff as appropriate and refers performance issues to the supervisor or manager to evaluate if a performance improvement process is needed.
  • Promotes intra- and inter-departmental cooperation and positive morale. Provides direction and answers co-workers questions.
  • Carries out procedures accepted by current public health regulations for cleaning, disinfecting, wrapping, sterilizing, storing, and dispensing of supplies and equipment.
  • Keeps post procedure supplies separated from clean or sterile supplies and equipment.
  • Follows specified procedure for sterilizer monitoring; cleans and operates the sterilizers according to established procedures.
  • Responsible that the principles of asepsis and technical knowledge are applied to all aspects of department.
  • Performs and records quality assurance functions as necessary.
  • Consistently adheres to hospital infection control and standard precautions.
