About The Position

Performs and participates in decontamination, cleaning, and assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable Dental instrumentation and equipment. The Sterile Processing Technician is also responsible for assuring that dental operatories are adequately cleaned, disinfected and are ready for patients; will also be responsible for preparation and inventory control of dental instruments and supplies.

Requirements

  • Requires high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Completion of Dental Assistant training program with a Dental Assisting Certificate preferred but not required, or Sterile Technician training program certification.
  • Ability to work courteously and effectively as a team member to support the quality/efficiency standards established for the office; work independently; exercise good judgment; spell correctly.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely, both verbally and in writing and demonstrate a high level of listening skills.
  • Perform clerical work in a methodical, independent and thorough manner with speed and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of dental terminology, instruments, and office practices and procedures preferred.
  • Must be able to work in a fast paced environment and to function effectively in a position that involves continuous movement and standing for long periods of time.
  • Current CPR and first aid certificates or the willingness to be trained within the first ninety (90) days of employment required.
  • Commitment to HIPAA and ability to abide by standards of professional ethics and maintain confidentiality.
  • Adherence to infection control procedures, including but not limited to, standard precautions of temperature monitoring, hand washing, symptom self-monitoring, masking and social distancing.
  • Assist and support the Center/Department/Program to meet standards of High Reliability.

Nice To Haves

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminate and sterilize instruments, dental supplies and equipment, assembles, wraps and sterilizes cassettes of instruments
  • Follows proper standard precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
  • Maintain functioning instruments and dental equipment according to the manufacturer instructions.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
