About The Position

We are seeking a detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technician (SPT) to support surgical services at a healthcare facility in Hyannis, Massachusetts . This role is essential to ensuring patient safety through the proper decontamination, sterilization, preparation, and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment.

Requirements

  • Sterile Processing Technician (SPT)
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Basic computer skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Successful completion of a Medical Terminology course or equivalent exam
  • Required – One of the Following
  • Anatomy & Physiology course (high school level or higher)
  • Successful passage of an Anatomy exam
  • SPD Technician Certification
  • 3 years of recent SPD experience (within the last 5 years)
  • Certification Requirements
  • Must successfully pass the SPD Technician Certification exam
  • SPT Leveling (If Applicable)
  • SPT I
  • Meets Sterile Processing Aide qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience as SPD Aide
  • SPD Technician Certification
  • SPT II
  • Meets SPT I qualifications
  • Minimum 1 year experience as SPD Technician
  • Surgical Instrument Processor Certification
  • SPT III
  • Meets SPT II qualifications
  • Surgical Instrument Processor Certification and/or Ambulatory Surgery Technician Certification

Responsibilities

  • Decontamination
  • Identify and use appropriate methods and solutions to decontaminate instruments and clinical equipment
  • Sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse, and disinfect instruments and equipment
  • Follow and adhere to proper PPE guidelines
  • Instrument Preparation
  • Assemble instrumentation accurately using count sheets
  • Protect, wrap, containerize, peel-pack, and label instruments properly
  • Inspect instrumentation for cleanliness and functionality
  • Storage & Distribution
  • Handle and store sterile supplies, equipment, and instruments appropriately
  • Access and follow physician preference cards
  • Retrieve, distribute, and track medical and surgical supplies efficiently
  • Sterilization Process
  • Select appropriate sterilization methods
  • Adhere to correct sterilization practices and protocols
  • Document and verify sterilization loads and biological testing results
  • Equipment Operation
  • Operate SPD equipment including steam, ETO, Sterrad, and Steris I sterilizers
  • Use cart washers, washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners, heat sealers, and testing devices
  • Inventory Control
  • Order, receive, stock, and monitor surgical supply usage
  • Communicate supply issues promptly to appropriate personnel
  • General Duties
  • Serve as a resource to internal customers on SPD functions
  • Track progress in training, staff meetings, and in-service education
  • Perform duties independently with minimal supervision
  • Participate in on-call rotation as required
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area
  • Deliver service excellence to patients, visitors, and coworkers
  • Perform additional duties as assigned
