Overview Decontaminate, clean, process, and sterilize supplies and equipment dispensed by the department, following infection control practices and guidelines. Responsibilities Follows manufacturer instructions for use for steam and low temperature sterilization Follows manufacturer instructions for use for decontamination, disinfection of instruments, and flexible endoscopes according to department standards and industry guidelines Demonstrates knowledge of surgical instrument kits Demonstrates knowledge of how to properly inspect and assemble kits Adheres to hospital policies for CSR as well as follow AAMI guidelines (Association for the Advancement of Medical Instruments Performs equipment testing: Bowies and Biologicals, and reports any abnormal results to the supervisor Delivery of sterile instruments and kits in a timely manner, within 48 hours, to other departments within the hospital Maintains a clean work environment in accordance to regulator guidelines and hospital policy. Damp dusting horizontal surfaces, end of day cleaning, removal of trash and laundry Attends staff meetings and in services Stays up to date on departmental communication and required annual and periodical competencies Participates in orientation of new staff as needed Completes other daily tasks as requested and assigned Performs job specific requirements and other duties as assigned Answer the phone and take messages when needed Help with different reps that come in with trays or help with them taking trays out Help the OR when they are looking for a kit or instrument Qualifications High school diploma or GED After one full time year of work experience, obtain central sterile certification. Required Licensure/Certifications REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS: Central Sterile certification required 18 months years of hire; to be obtained through CBSPD.
