Essential Functions and Basic Duties Position Specific Performance Expectations: Demonstrates competence necessary to assemble, clean, maintain, replace and inventory equipment and instruments. Demonstrates competence in preparing and cleaning of surgical services area and OR suites before and between cases and after terminal case, based upon the patient’s infection class. Restocks supplies as assigned. Demonstrates responsibility for care of instruments/equipment, including cleaning and processing of instruments. Demonstrates thorough knowledge of instrument processing, sterilization, biological monitoring and chemical monitoring. Monitors and promotes a safe environment during care and maintenance of instruments and equipment. Performs all aspects of Sterile Processing and Central Services in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/healthcare errors. Assists the Surgical Services team to plan and evaluate procedural needs to optimize outcomes and maximize available resources. Collaborates as needed across disciplines to coordinate appropriate supplies for procedures Identifies barriers to effective communication based on psychosocial, literacy, financial, and cultural considerations. May precept new hires. Employs critical thinking skills, decisive judgement, and the ability to work with minimal supervision. Must be able to work in a fast paced environment, and take appropriate action. Performs other duties as assigned.
