Requirements

  • High school graduate or equivalent.
  • Must successfully complete an approved sterile processing certification program within two years of hire date in department.
  • Certification must be kept current.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
  • Ability to keep orderly records.
  • Ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.

Responsibilities

  • Directs proper care and storage of supplies and equipment used for patient care.
  • Maintains a sufficient amount of supplies on patient units and distributes supplies to units when requested (including STAT requests).
  • Processes instruments and supplies by cleaning, packaging, sterilizing and storing in accordance with established policies and procedures.
  • Checks for outdated supplies, rotates supplies and assists in keeping a clean and orderly department by putting supplies away correctly.
  • Checks specialty carts and follows up on patient charge compliance.
  • Maintains equipment for patient care.
  • Documents loss of equipment, instruments, and/or supplies.
