Requirements

High school graduate or equivalent.
Must successfully complete an approved sterile processing certification program within two years of hire date in department.
Certification must be kept current.
Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations.
Ability to keep orderly records.
Ability to understand instructions and communicate effectively in both written and oral forms.

Responsibilities

Directs proper care and storage of supplies and equipment used for patient care.
Maintains a sufficient amount of supplies on patient units and distributes supplies to units when requested (including STAT requests).
Processes instruments and supplies by cleaning, packaging, sterilizing and storing in accordance with established policies and procedures.
Checks for outdated supplies, rotates supplies and assists in keeping a clean and orderly department by putting supplies away correctly.
Checks specialty carts and follows up on patient charge compliance.
Maintains equipment for patient care.
Documents loss of equipment, instruments, and/or supplies.
