The position involves performing all aspects of processing functions to support the needs of the unit. This includes decontaminating, inspecting, and maintaining reusable instruments, preparing items for washing and sterilization, and ensuring that processed items meet technical standards. The role also requires participation in cost containment initiatives and safety monitoring of instruments, as well as responding to patient care requests for processed supplies and instruments.

  • Decontaminates, inspects, and maintains reusable instruments to prepare items for Custom Ultrasonic washing and/or sterilization.
  • Participates in cost containment initiatives and safety by monitoring instruments and identifying instruments in need of repair.
  • Prepares designated reusable supplies and instruments in the proper quantity and layout to meet physician and medical/surgical needs with minimal errors.
  • Wraps designated supplies according to technical specifications to ensure sterility during handling and/or through its shelf life.
  • Assures processed items meet technical standards and decontamination through the use of control procedures in the cleaning process.
  • Performs biological and chemical monitoring in accordance with quality assurance standards.
  • Operates the Custom Ultrasonics machine following the manufacturer's operational instructions.
  • Responds to patient care requests for delivery of processed supplies and instruments.
  • Cleans and tests patient care equipment between each patient use.
  • Completes Bio-Medical service request forms for any malfunctioning equipment.
  • Assists in other quality assurance monitoring and daily audits and completes on daily work sheets.
  • Processes linen by sorting, folding, counting, stacking, and packing according to departmental policy.
  • Labels instruments clearly and correctly following departmental policy and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as directed.
  • High School Diploma.
  • Requires on-the-job training to learn technical procedures and to become familiar with a broad range of medical surgical items.
  • Must be able to understand directions and communicate effectively.
  • Must have excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Must be able to input and retrieve information from a computer.
