Requirements

  • Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
  • License/Certification: None
  • Note: This is a 12-month time limited positon. SPD intern will be trained and educated on the job to care for and reprocess reusable medical equipment and surgical instrumentation. The intern will successfully pass all hospital competencies for department. Certification as Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) through International Association of Healthcare Central Sterile Materiel Management (IAHCSMM)) is required by the end of 12 months.
  • Experience: None necessary, completion of formal training in field preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Due to the highly technical nature, especially related to interpretation of manufacturer’s Instructions For Use (IFU), ALL SPD staff must be proficient in spoken and written English.
  • Computer skills: Various applications related to Instrument management (Censis, OneSource)
  • BLOOD BORNE PATHOGENS EXPOSURE CATEGORY Category 1: Job usually involves contact with patients or patient specimens. Exposure to blood, body fluids, non-intact skin or tissue specimens, is possible
  • Manual Dexterity with the ability to assemble and disassemble complex instrumentation
  • Physical Ability: 4 This employee will have heavy physical stress on the back. Involves frequent heavy lifting-more than 50 pounds-often combined with bending or turning. Employees in this category should be capable of heavy sustained labor.
