About The Position

UChicago Medicine, a world-class academic healthcare system, is seeking a Sterile Processing Technician I for its Central Sterile Processing Department in Hyde Park. This is a 100% onsite, full-time opportunity, requiring the candidate to be based in the greater Chicagoland area. The role is responsible for preparing OR surgical case carts and performing decontamination and sterilization of reprocessable supplies, equipment, and surgical instruments to support patient care. Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to respond effectively to urgent and emergency supply needs
  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, and push trays over 20 lbs for extended periods

Nice To Haves

  • One year of experience in central supply or sterile processing
  • Previous hospital-based central supply experience

Responsibilities

  • Performs daily inventory of sterile supplies to ensure appropriate stock levels
  • Prepares and assembles instrument and procedural trays for sterilization
  • Maintains cleanliness and organization of all work areas
  • Operates sterilization equipment including gas and steam sterilizers, cart washers, and sonic washers
  • Decontaminates supplies using appropriate methods (washer, sonic cleaner, cart washer, or manual cleaning)
  • Prepares OR surgical case carts accurately and efficiently
  • Delivers supplies to patient care areas including clinics, nursery, and diagnostic units
  • Tracks equipment and instrument trays to maintain accurate inventory
  • Prepares and assembles instruments for operating rooms, clinics, and birth rooms
  • Prepares linen packs and “special-fold” surgical linens for sterilization
  • Delivers equipment as requested per department needs
  • Adheres to all department policies and procedures
  • Maintains confidentiality of all information
  • Participates in training and development to support patient care excellence
  • Performs other duties as assigned
