About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician I is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, packaging, sterilization, storage, and distribution of medical and surgical equipment and supplies. This role ensures compliance with various health and safety guidelines while maintaining the integrity of sterile packages and promoting excellent customer service within the facility.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED).
  • Completion of an accredited Sterile Processing Program including 400 clinical hours or a Surgical Technician program.
  • Basic knowledge of instrument processing techniques, including decontamination, assembly, and sterilization.
  • Knowledge of Sterile Processing Department Policies and Procedures.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and hear audible alarms required.
  • Basic computer skills.

Nice To Haves

  • One (1) year recent experience as a Sterile Processing Technician or Surgical Technician in an acute hospital or ambulatory setting.
  • Sterile Processing or Surgical Technician national certification preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminates, cleans, packages, sterilizes, stores, and distributes medical/surgical equipment and supplies according to established guidelines.
  • Fills orders from requesting departments and manages inventory and restocking of supplies and specialty carts.
  • Makes equipment rounds, returns soiled equipment to the Sterile Processing Department (SPD), and cleans equipment per manufacturer recommendations.
  • Operates all equipment in the Sterile Processing Department, including steam sterilizers and automated endoscope reprocessors.
  • Prepares Operating Room (OR) case carts according to preference cards for surgical procedures.
  • Maintains the integrity of sterile packages and documents tests and sterilizer records using an instrument and equipment tracking system.
  • Promotes and improves customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned within the scope of training and service.
