About The Position

Responsible for the sterilization and cleaning of medical equipment, instruments, and supplies. Oversees retrieving contaminated supplies and delivering sterile supplies, maintaining inventory, and preparing sterile instrument trays for surgeries, examinations, and procedures. Tests and reports any issues or problems with the sterilization equipment's. Must be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED equivalent required
• Completion of a Sterile Processing program preferred
• Certified Central Service Technician required (CBSPD or HSPA (IAHCSMM) certification)
• Prior experience preferred

Responsibilities

• Knowledge of case cart preparation system, surgical instruments, and the different methods of sterilization (Steam, HLD, hydrogen)
• Basic computer knowledge with an instrument tracking system
• Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time
• Heavy lifting of surgical sets, pulling and pushing of sterilization transport carts and case carts
• Perform tasks quickly and efficiently, paying close attention to details
• Operate all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely
• Prepare, assemble, and sterilize instruments and supplies according to parameters of sterilization
• Accurately handle and care for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents and lubricants
• Correctly peel-pack supplies/instruments, wrap instruments for sterilization, inspect each instrument for use, function, completeness, and cleanliness
• Ensure safe care to patients, staff, and visitors; adhere to all FSC policies, procedures and standards and quality of service
• Clean, set up, sterilize, and distribute instruments as scheduled on each shift
• Handle and dispose of infectious waste appropriately
• Adhere to Standard Precautions as appropriate, which may include: the use of protective barriers, as appropriate (e.g., gloves, masks, gowns, pocket masks, and/or safety glasses)
• Perform other related duties as assigned
