The Sterile Processing Technician - Certified position at UVA Medical Center involves entry-level tasks related to the decontamination, cleaning, assembling, packaging, scanning, sterilization, storage, and distribution of reusable surgical instrumentation, supplies, and equipment. Responsibilities include ordering, receiving, conducting cycle counts, pulling cases for the Operating Room, stocking supplies, instruments and pans, restocking clean cart supplies, expediting supplies to the OR, and stocking OMNICELL cabinets with room stock. The technician is also responsible for cleaning the storeroom, keeping stock in order, verifying expiration dates, and ensuring correct items are stored in their correct locations. Additionally, the technician prepares and assembles surgical trays and equipment following established tray listings for issue, storage, or further processing such as sterilization. Monitoring, reading, documenting, and interpreting all parameters for all types of sterilizers to ensure proper function is also a key responsibility. The role requires cleaning and decontaminating reusable equipment, instruments, and supplies, both manually and mechanically, and operating the departmental bar code system to maintain records for surgical trays and instruments received, processed, and distributed.
