About The Position
Sterile Processing Technician (CRCST or CSPDT REQUIRED) Casual/Per Diem - (16 hours biweekly) = (2) 8-hour shifts Able to rotate all three shifts every other weekend Day 7a-3:30p | Evening 3p-11:30p | Overnight 11:00 pm - 7:30a Location - Newark ChristianaCare has been ranked as the No. 5 health system in the nation by Money Magazine in its 2024 hospital rankings. ChristianaCare is searching for an experienced Sterile Processing Technician to clean, inspect, sterilize and decontaminate instruments for the Operating Room and other ancillary departments.
Requirements
- High school graduate or equivalent
- 1 year of Sterile Processing experience is required, hospital experience preferred
- Current National CRCST/HSPA or CSPDT/CBSPD certification required
Responsibilities
- Follows instrument decontamination procedures, according to the checklist and guidelines.
- Operates cleaning equipment (i.e. ultrasonic cleaner, washer decontaminators, cart washer), including all sterilization equipment and the cart lift.
- Identifies removes and replaces broken and improperly functioning surgical instruments.
- Reassembles instruments into their assigned trays according to instrument tray list by configuration and number.
- Locates missing items and instruments from instrument sets, instrument boards, bins, or extra instruments in the trays.
- Uses knowledge and skills to apply biological indicators in the sterilization process, adhering to quality control requirements.
- Identifies, wraps, and labels items accurately for steam, Sterrad, and gas sterilization.
- Pulls case carts for surgical procedures and completes missing item slips for carts that are incomplete.
- Restocks supplies in the instrument, decontamination area, sterilization processing area, and case cart area according to checklist or par levels.
- Communicates optimally with employees, patients, and visitors.
- Educate new employees in Sterile Processing.
- Responds to emergencies by notifying the appropriate person and taking direction from the appropriate person.
- Compliance with mandatory education requirements and mandatory tests by the time given.
- Maintains an attitude of dedication, courtesy, and collaboration toward others.
- Ensures that par levels are met for sterile storage and the OR sterile instrument areas.
