About The Position

SUMMARY: Responsible for preparing and assembling medical and surgical supplies, instrumentation, and equipment, maintaining the sterile processing areas, and receiving and distributing surgical supplies and equipment.   ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:   1. Support the mission, vision, and values of the organization.  2. Follow established protocols for cleaning, decontaminating, preparing and packaging, disinfecting or sterilizing, and storing medical and surgical supplies and equipment. 3. Distribute medical and surgical supplies from sterile processing areas to other areas within the facility or health care organization as needed. 4. Adhere to universal precautions including the use of personal protective equipment. 5. Follow safety procedures and manufacturer’s instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies and equipment. 6. Operate equipment used in the sterile processing areas safely and according to the manufacturer’s instructions for use. 7. Monitor, interpret, and document results of physical, chemical and biological indicators for all types of sterilizers used in the sterile processing areas. 8. Prepare and distribute surgical case carts according to physician’s preference lists and anticipated needs of the perioperative team. 9. Inventory, receive, and restock materials used for supporting sterile processing services. 10. Comply with organizational policies, regulatory and accreditation standards, and professional guidelines. 11. Exhibit professional interpersonal and communication skills.  12. Assist with improving the quality of sterile processing services. 13. Assist with identifying pertinent evidence to establish benchmarks as directed. 14. Maintain privacy and confidentiality of individuals and health information.   OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.         Able to adapt to change in workload.  Able to perform in a precise and accurate manner in handling priority tasks. 2.         Accepts constructive criticism and incorporates suggestions into practice. 3.         Knowledge and ability to apply ethical and legal principles to practice. 4.         Organizes work and completes assignments in a timely manner. 5.          Other duties as assigned from time to time.   SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: None.

Requirements

  • High School or equivalent.
  • One year of sterile processing experience.
  • Computer skills (eg, Microsoft® PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Current Basic Life Support Certification within 90 days of hire into position.
  • Must be certified Central Supply Processing Department Technician (CSPDT), or Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) within 2 years of hire.
  • Manual dexterity with fine motor ability to operate and handle equipment used in the department.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous clinical experience in a patient care setting preferred, with successful completion of orientation and training to the point of competence.
