About The Position

Performs decontamination, cleaning, assembly, sterilization, and distribution of reusable instrumentation for all areas of FHN. Selects appropriate sterile single-use supplies from surgical cases. Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent required.
Prior job related experience is also preferred.
This position requires critical thinking and attention to detail

Nice To Haves

Sterile processing technician certificate preferred.

Responsibilities

Follows prescribed procedures and techniques for effective instrument decontamination and personal safety.
Disassembles and cleans instruments manually and mechanically.
Performs equipment testing and cleaning as directed.
Inspects all instruments for cleanliness and proper working order.
Correctly assembles instrument sets - checking for all prescribed items.
Packages, seals and labels items correctly.
Determines correct method of sterilization and exposure requirements.
Maintains and assures accuracy of sterilization records for all items sterilized.
Places items in sterilizer properly and operates sterilizers according to manufacturer's instructions.
Verifies sterilization parameters have been met.
Transfers sterilized items to transport cart or bins for distribution.
Performs biological and sterilizer function testing.
Transports care carts between SPD (Sterile Processing Department) and OR (Operating Room).
Selects correct supplies for surgical cases following surgeon preference cards.
Supply restocking, supply outdates, and department cleaning.
Supports and serves our internal and our external customers.
