About The Position

Provides the facility with services in the areas of supply processing and distribution. Sterile processing has five major areas: Decontamination, processing (inspection, assembly and packaging), Sterilizing, Sterile Storage, and distribution.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician through the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician (CSPDT) through Certified Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or due within 18 months of hire.
  • Ability to be scheduled for work based on operational needs of the hospital.
  • Possesses the ability to deal tactfully and harmoniously with guests.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to perform in emergency or stressful situations
  • Able to perform as a part of a team as well as independently
  • Must meet Department of Labor’s MEDIUM duty standard (MEDIUM WORK- exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly).
  • Able to bend, stoop, reach and be capable of normal rotation, standing and walking for an 8-12 hour shift.
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 60 pounds and pushing loaded carts weighting in excess of 200 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Provide exceptional patient care by providing prompt, accurate service
  • Provide supplies of sterile linen packs, basins, instrument trays, and other sterile items
  • Maintain accurate records of cleaning, disinfection, and the sterilization processes
  • Strive for consistency in the trays that the department provides
  • Monitor and enforce controls necessary to prevent cross-contamination according to infection control policies
  • Establish and maintain sterile processing standards
  • Implement changes as needed to stay current with new regulations and recommended practices
  • Review current practices for possible improvements in quality of services provided
  • Provide services to other departments in all areas of sterile processing
  • Completion of annual required education related to specialty accreditation as defined by accreditation standards. Training may be completed through CBLs, trainings, In-services, and competency validation.
