Responsible for the cleaning, processing, sterilization, storage and distribution of reusable instruments and trays to facilitate age specific patient care as according to IAHCSMM Standards or CBSPD Standards. Under the direct supervision of the Sterile Processing Manager. Responsible for assigned shifts as scheduled. Employee is subject to overtime and call back as required by hospital. ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: Decontaminates, processes, sterilizes, stores and distributes instrument sets to facilitate age specific patient care. Acquires knowledge in all aspects of sterilizers, sonic wash, washer-disinfectors, and sterrad, Monitors steam sterilizer loads, has ability to identify problems concerning codes and warnings on computer printouts. Maintains instrument availability for scheduled and additional cases. Process instruments in the most efficient manner possible, which includes having all trays complete and ready for their appropriate procedures on time. Complete knowledge of the biological indicators for testing of the sterilizers in the absence of the supervisor. Complete knowledge of the Bowie Dick (DART) test for sterilizer testing in the absence of the supervisor. Coordinates recall procedures in the event we have a positive culture. Coordinates with surgery personnel on instrument sets needed for surgery cases. Responds and communicates well with co-workers and other departments. Complete knowledge of storage and distribution of supplies which includes pulling supplies as needed for the MOR, printing the MOR Surgery Schedule for the next day’s surgery cases, printing Resource Maps and filling and/or delivering orders requested by the MOR. Performs related responsibilities as required or directed.
