About The Position

The Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for preparing medical and surgical instrumentation for distribution within the AU Health enterprise, including off-site affiliations. This role involves operating decontamination and sterilization equipment, inspecting and assembling surgical instrument trays, and ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines and quality control processes. The technician works collaboratively with the Sterile Processing team and the Operating Room, maintaining professionalism and ethical standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accrediting organization.
  • No work experience required if candidate has HS diploma or GED; 5 years of work experience in sterile processing can be used in lieu of education if no diploma is available.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Certification(s) required: CSPDT through CBSPD or CRCST through HSPA within 1 year of hire.

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational or technical training or degree in Sterile Processing Training.
  • 1 year or more of experience in sterile processing.
  • Knowledge of Surgical Instrumentation, Decontamination, and Sterilization.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare medical and surgical instrumentation for distribution to and from the AU Health enterprise.
  • Operate decontamination and sterilization equipment.
  • Inspect, assemble, and wrap surgical instrument trays for sterilization.
  • Decontaminate and high-level disinfect flexible endoscopes.
  • Pull and distribute case carts for procedures.
  • Assist with the establishment and execution of quality control processes related to sterile processing.
  • Implement regulatory guidelines and designated policies and procedures.
