The Sterile Processing Tech Non Certified position involves preparing medical and surgical instrumentation for distribution within the AU Health enterprise, including off-site affiliations. This role operates decontamination and sterilization equipment, inspects, assembles, and wraps surgical instrument trays of varying complexity for sterilization. The tech also decontaminates high-level disinfects for flexible endoscopes, pulls and distributes case carts for procedures, and assists with establishing and executing quality control processes related to sterile processing. These services are provided in adherence to regulatory guidelines and designated policies and procedures, requiring cooperative work with the Sterile Processing team and the Operating Room while maintaining professionalism and ethical standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, GED or equivalent from a recognized State or Federal accrediting organization
  • No work experience required if candidate has HS diploma or GED
  • If candidate does not have HS diploma or GED, 5 years of work experience in sterile processing can be used in lieu of education
  • Basic computer skills
  • Certification(s) required: CSPDT through CBSPD or CRCST through HSPA within 1 year of hire

Nice To Haves

  • Vocational or technical training or degree: Sterile Processing Training
  • 1 years or more of experience in sterile processing
  • Knowledge of Surgical Instrumentation, Decontamination, and Sterilization

Responsibilities

  • Prepares medical and surgical Instrumentation for distribution to and from the AU Health enterprise to include off-site affiliations
  • Operates decontamination and sterilization of equipment
  • Inspects, assembles, and wraps for sterilization simple to complex surgical instrument trays
  • Decontaminates high level disinfects for flexible endoscopes
  • Responsible for pulling and distributing case carts for procedures
  • Assists with the establishment and execution of quality control processes as it relates to sterile processing
  • Provides these services through knowledge and implementation of regulatory guidelines and designated policies and procedures
  • Works cooperatively with other members of the Sterile Processing team as well as the Operating Room with a sense of professionalism and ethical standards
