The senior technician coordinates the overall activities within the Sterile Processing Department on their assigned shift and acts as the department and OR resource, in the absence of the Sterile Processing Supervisor. Inspects, cleans, assembles and sterilizes surgical instrument sets. Operates cleaning and sterilization equipment in order to clean instruments and supplies. Is proficient in the technical and quality performance metrics. Guides and assists SP Techs I, II, III. Performs QA audits

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum five years instrument processing experience required.
  • Must have demonstrated competence in all instrument set assembly and sterilization to include all specialties.
  • CBSPD (Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution) or CRCST (Certified and Registered Central Service Technician), Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA), formerly IAHCSMM (International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management) certification; and CER or CFER, or equivalent 2 certifications (e.g. CIS, CHL).
