About The Position

Perform duties of decontamination, assembly, high level disinfection and/or sterilization of surgical instruments for the OR and other departments and clinics'

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Has full proficiency of Sterile Processing knowledge and skills gained through job related training and considerable on-the-job experience.
  • CSPDT or CRCST required
  • Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician-(CSPDT) through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) or Certified Registered Central Service Technician-(CRCST) through the International Association of Healthcare Central Service Materials Management (IAHCSMM) required.
  • Current Sterile Processing certification as an Instrument Specialist (CIS) through the IAHCSMM or Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) from CBSPD or Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) through the IAHCSMM required.

  • One year experience preferred prior to becoming eligible for a team lead position.

Responsibilities

  • Performs all duties of Sterile Processing Tech I s and II s.
  • Ability to coach Sterile Processing Tech I s in the department on how specific duties are performed, and why they are important to patient safety.
  • One year experience preferred prior to becoming eligible for a team lead position.
  • Partners with an Operating Room Team Leads to identify areas of opportunities in regards to instrumentation.
  • Provides in-services for new instrumentation in their assigned service line.
  • Maintains an accurate inventory of instrumentation related to their assigned service line.
  • Decontamination of surgical instruments for the OR, other hospital departments and clinics in accordance with established policies and standard work.
  • Decontamination and high level disinfection of GI flexible endoscopes within Sterile Processing or the GI Lab.
  • Inspection, maintenance, assembly and sterilization of surgical instruments and linen for the OR, other departments and clinics in accordance with established policies and standard work.
  • Handling, storage and transportation of surgical instruments and linen for the OR, other hospital departments and clinics in accordance with established policies and standard work
  • Monitor and maintain standards of disinfection and sterilization as recommended by prevailing regulatory and professional organization recommendations or guidelines.
  • Prioritize tasks as directed by supervisor or as needed to support patient care for the OR and customer departments.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision in accordance with standards and policies.
  • Document, monitor and maintain accurate records demonstrating high level disinfection and sterilization in accordance with current professional and regulatory agencies.
  • Performs other functions as required.
