About The Position

Incumbent decontaminates, operationally inspects, assembles, sterilizes, and distributes surgical instrumentation, implants, supplies, and equipment throughout the medical center. Incumbent maintains documentation related to these duties and assists in the training of other Sterile Processing Technicians. Incumbent pulls needed supplies and instruments for next day cases or emergent cases by utilizing OR preference cards picklists. Performs all tasks necessary to prepare and maintain accurate surgical Case Carts. Incumbent operates and maintains sterilization equipment, decontamination equipment, and computer systems related to these duties. This position requires the flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations. The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy. Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement. The salary range for this position is $41.25 - $41.25 (Hourly Rate). Requirements

  • High School graduate, G.E.D. or equivalent of time
  • Possess and maintain current certification as a Sterile Processing Technician through an accredited organization (CRCST- Certified Registered Central Service Tech, IAHCSMM, or Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician CBSPD).
  • A minimum of one (1) year of previous Sterile Processing technician experience
  • Knowledge of all areas in SPD including: Decontamination Inspection, Assembly & Packaging (all service lines) Sterilization of Packaged Medical Devices QC & Sterilization record keeping Distribution of Sterile Products Preparation, Build and QA of Case carts
  • Detailed knowledge and ability to operate machinery including sterilizers, washers and ultrasonic cleaners
  • The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations
  • Good communication and customer service skills
  • Basic knowledge of computer systems including Windows OS, keyboard & mouse operations
  • Demonstrated ability to competently perform multiple, complex tasks
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Knowledge of standard precautions for safety and prevention of cross contamination
  • The ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
  • The ability to understand, speak, and write English in order to communicate with nursing, technical, and medical staff
  • The ability to safely move heavy trays and equipment, lifting up to 50 pounds, and stand for prolonged periods
