The incumbent is under the supervision of the Manager and Shift Supervisor of the Sterile Processing Department. The professional responsibilities are divided into five major areas: decontamination, preparation and assembly, sterilization processing, storage and distribution. These responsibilities are successfully accomplished through the use of creative application of knowledge, skills, interpersonal and mentoring competencies, and a high level of professionalism. The incumbent will have proficient knowledge of RME reprocessing as required by this position. The incumbent will be required to develop and maintain current knowledge of SPD procedures, which document the processes, and procedures for cleaning, disinfection, sterilization and preparation of RME appropriate to this position. The incumbent will be able to demonstrate knowledge of universal precautions for safety and prevention of cross contamination and their ability to utilize an acceptable proficiency in the use of RME appropriate to this position. The incumbent will work as team member with other Sterile Processing Technicians of various experience to carry out the daily work utilizing Manufactures Instructions for Use (IFU) in accordance with SPD instructions, policies, previous training, or accepted/standard practices. The incumbent will act as a mentor to developmental level Sterile Processing Technicians and serve as a proctor for sterile processing students as instructed.
