As a Sterile Processing Professional, you will be a critical guardian of patient safety, ensuring surgical teams receive correct, fully functional, and sterile instrumentation. You will expertly perform decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy, delivering instruments with resourcefulness, determination, courtesy, and professionalism. You will continuously expand your knowledge of standards and procedures for surgical instrumentation. Success in this role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and a rigorous commitment to infection control, ensuring optimal surgical outcomes with a professional demeanor.

Responsibilities

  • Be a critical guardian of patient safety, ensuring surgical teams receive correct, fully functional, and sterile instrumentation
  • Expertly perform decontamination, prep and pack, sterilization, and dispatch with efficiency, expertise, and accuracy
  • Deliver instruments with resourcefulness, determination, courtesy, and professionalism
  • Continuously expand knowledge of standards and procedures for surgical instrumentation
  • Demonstrate and facilitate effective departmental and inter-departmental communications
  • Consistently respond to departmental and inter-departmental needs in a prompt, accurate, clear, and precise manner
  • Consistently inform appropriate individuals about problems involving equipment, supplies, instruments, implants, etc.
  • Consistently maintain continuity of communications
  • Use care in handling instruments, identify heat sensitive items, and separate delicate items to prevent damage
  • Consistently keep washers loaded and operating
  • Keep accurate records of all instruments received and cleaned
  • Follow cleaning, decontamination, and sterilization procedures per manufacturer’s instructions
  • Consistently inspect the integrity of implant packaging to ensure sterility
  • Assemble implant sets, emergency carts, and trays with minimal assistance
  • Consistently process, check, and label implants in a timely, accurate, and legible manner with minimal assistance
  • Replace all items needed to complete implant sets and specialty carts with minimal assistance
  • Record requests for implants on the record form
  • Consistently maintain a clean and orderly work area
  • Consistently inspect instruments for sharpness, deterioration, alignment, and cleanliness
  • Inspect all serration and cannulations according to policy
  • Check the condition of instrument containers prior to use
  • Ensure that appropriate sterilization indicators and filters are placed in the instrument pan(s) prior to sterilization
  • Consistently ensure that instrument sets are complete prior to sterilization; record all missing tag items that are not replaced in instrument sets
  • Consistently keep conveyor unloaded and cleared of trays
  • Correctly process workload (case cart, power equipment, decontaminating equipment, scopes, etc.) and determine processing/cleaning priorities
  • Display knowledge in identifying surgical instrumentation
