About The Position

Responsible for the decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of a variety of surgical instruments, hospital trays and individual items used at the main campus and the Women's campus.

Requirements

  • High school graduate or GED.
  • Two years of experience in sterile processing operations or in a position that has knowledge of and understands the importance of providing sterilized trays of instruments to customers in a timely manner.
  • Certification in sterile processing preferred and encouraged at time of hire.
  • Minimal computer skills.
  • Ability to read, write and speak intelligible English.
  • Strong quantitative, analytical, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to communicate orally and in written form.
  • Must be detail oriented.
  • Requires emotional stability and maturity.
  • Must be adaptable to change, be decisive, and demonstrate foresight.
  • Exhibits organizational and leadership ability.
  • Must be team oriented with strong interpersonal skills.

Responsibilities

  • Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, medical supplies and equipment.
  • Assembles, wraps, and sterilizes trays of instruments.
  • Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and medical equipment.
  • Sorts mismatched sets of instruments, trays and medical equipment and makes them available to sterile processing customers in a timely manner.
  • Restocks, labels and maintains inventory; submits requisitions.
  • Collects and distributes instruments, trays, crash carts and facility medical equipment.
  • Performs environmental maintenance duties and assists in maintaining inventory levels in sterile processing, the operating room and in equipment storage areas.
  • Assists with maintaining departmental policies and procedures, objectives; and quality improvement, safety and environmental and infection control standards.
  • Knowledge of processes, procedures, quality assurance, chemicals and medical instruments sufficient to decontaminate and sterilize equipment, supplies and instruments.
  • Incorporates Healthy Workforce in daily practice.
  • Cleans department and workstations according to department standards in accordance with ARON and AAMI.
  • Selects appropriate packing material according to type of sterilization techniques to be used.
  • Labels sterilized products with identification and sterilization indicators as in accordance to ARON and AAMI.
