The Sterile Processing Team Leader acts as the liaison between the operating room and Sterile Processing Department (SPD), ensuring appropriate and continuous delivery of instrumentation to provide a seamless throughput of the daily surgical schedule.

Requirements

  • High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), and/or GED equivalent programs.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in a multi service line operating room.
  • Knowledge of surgical instrumentation.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient computer skills that include but are not limited to Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite platforms.
  • National Certification: Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) or Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPDT).

  • Knowledge of patient care equipment, proper cleaning and disinfection techniques, and medical instrumentation and supplies.
  • Established ability to multitask and perform detailed work in a face paced environment.
  • Good communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge of Sterile Processing timeframes and procedures.
  • Completes all case cart checklists and ensures the daily delivery of instruments and supplies to the operating rooms.
  • Communication with Operating Room (OR) leadership and OR Service Line Coordinators.
  • Communicates with vendors and enforces policies regarding timely delivery of loaner instruments for scheduled cases.
  • Maintains continuous monitoring of the OR schedule throughout the shift for any additional cases and/or cancellations and assures that instrumentation is available.
  • Participates in the daily scheduling huddle for communication and information on instrumentation and loaners that are needed for the next day.
  • Completes daily checks of all consigned case carts and peel pack bins for appropriate par levels.
  • Monitors that instrument count sheets are being completed, signed and sent back with trays to Sterile Processing Department daily.
  • Monitors for broken instrumentation and maintains repair logs.
  • Lifts a minimum of 30 lbs., pushes and pulls a minimum of 50 lbs. and stands a minimum of length of shift.
  • Other duties and/or projects as assigned.
  • Adheres to HMH Organizational competencies and standards of behavior.
