About The Position

The Scope Specialist, an unlicensed staff member, under the direction of the Sterile Processing Manager, primary task is the reprocessing of endoscopes utilized in the operating room and ancillary areas according to regulatory standards and appropriate internal standards. The Scope Specialist may also float to any of our Sterile Processing Departments based on the needs of the department. The Scope Specialist will assist with in-servicing of staff, precept employees, transportation of instrumentations/scopes, and additional job duties as required. Additionally, the Scope Specialist is responsible for assisting in traditional Sterile Processing technician responsibilities including reprocessing instrumentation, stocking unit supplies, and maintaining a clean functional work environment. Always exhibits excellent customer service skills. Demonstrates competence in the areas of critical thinking, interpersonal relationships, and technical skills related to delegated tasks. Relies on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals. Is self-directed and proactive in performing a variety of tasks as indicated in his/her role. Will complete competencies for all Sterile Processing related responsibilities and High-Level Disinfection (HLD). Hours for this position are Mon- Fri 6:00am- 2:30pm

Requirements

  • High School Graduate
  • 1 or more years Sterile Processing Technician, Surgical Technologist, or Scope Reprocessing experience
  • Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) within 1 Year
  • Certified Registered Central Service Technician(CRCST) - Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) within 90 Days

Responsibilities

  • Demonstrates proper hand hygiene, standard precautions, and isolation principles.
  • Decontaminates, inspects, assembles, and sterilizes instrumentation according to national guidelines and internal standards.
  • Operates departmental equipment within appropriate guidelines/policies/procedures.
  • Demonstrates high levels of quality control by following departmental policies/procedures and thorough documentation of sterilization process.
  • Effectively prioritizes and communicates customer needs within the department and with external customers.
  • Assists in maintaining a clean and safe work environment.
  • Understands and identifies instrumentation and equipment utilized in all customer areas.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Supervisor or Manager
  • Must be able to perform the professional, clinical and or technical competencies of the assigned unit or department.
