Instrument Coordinator - Sterile Processing Department - Days Position Highlights: Position: Instrument Coordinator Location: Arlington Heights, IL Full Time/Part Time: Full time Hours: Monday-Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm What you will do: Maintains instrument inventory for all user areas throughout the hospital, orders when necessary through Lawson. Assures that instruments and supplies are provided to the O.R. according to schedule. Assures instrument repair and restore program is implemented correctly. Maintains supply inventory for processing needs, i.e.. Wrap, tape, indicators, etc… Arranges for repairs when needed, prepares requisitions, packages, and arranges shipping Consults with clinical engineering for equipment repair and follow thru to ensure equipment is functional as soon as possible Communicates status of critical equipment and instrument repairs to manager Arranges for loaner devices when necessary Responsible for collecting and collating statistical data and graphs for required reports relating to task performance and productivity on a timely basis. Assists management in determining budget needs for new procedures and monitors budgetary parameters for ongoing functions of the processing area. Assists in developing and/or updating departmental policies, procedures, goals, and objectives. Ensures proper manufacturer guidelines for sterilization for all reusable instruments and supplies are followed. Involved with specific departments to determine supply and instrument needs for new and/or revised procedures. Oversees and manages Audits for trays and case carts for department Quality Improvement and JCAHO purposes. Participates in multi-disciplinary teams focused on improving workflow, quality of sets, and/or compliance Identifies opportunities and participates in improving the quality of patient care and/or work processes Acts as a liaison between SPD and other departments to interpret problems that occur and communicate back to them in a courteous and professional manner. Act as SPD Validator - providing orientation and ongoing training for SPD technicians, nursing, and other staff members Updates and maintains procedure cards and count sheets In coordination with Leadership, identifies the learning needs of staff Assures that all cleaning, preparation, packaging, and high level disinfection/sterilization of instruments, trays, and packs is performed properly. Assures that proper controls are utilized to ensure that sterilizer loads are, in fact, sterile. When needed, responsible for the supervision of all activities in the processing area. Schedules staffing levels to assure proper production of supplies. Adjusts schedule to meet department needs. Trains, evaluates, and, when necessary, recommends corrective action and discharge of supervised personnel. Observes employee activities throughout the shift to ensure that established procedures are being followed for quality control. Monitors the activities of employees and other personnel in SPD having responsibility for an effective and efficient operation. Notifies a manager of any problems that occur during the shift. Communicates ideas for revisions of policy and/or procedures. Manages the needs lists and prioritizes workflow appropriately Escalates any quality or productivity concerns to supervisor for evaluation Communicates effectively thru verbal and written communication, including daily shift reports Able to fill in for supervisor or manager as needed Identifies employee behavior requiring corrective action, discusses behavior with employee, contributes information/documentation to manager when counseling is appropriate - as needed
